Injury In Idaho

Purchasing Car Insurance

In most states it is illegal to drive a car without insurance.  However, the minimum amount of insurance required by law is usually ridiculously low.  People sometimes try to save money by purchasing only the minimum amount.  This is a mistake for the following reasons:

  1. If the collision was your fault, and if the amount of insurance is not enough to pay the verdict awarded by the jury, the remainder of the money comes from your personal assets.  In a serious injury case, this could force you into bankruptcy and wipe out a lifetime of savings.
  2. Usually the first chunk of insurance is expensive.  Adding on additional layers of insurance usually is less expensive than the first layer.
  3. A smart consumer will usually ask that his insurance policy include uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage.  This is insurance which kicks if the collision is not your fault, but the other driver has no insurance or inadequate insurance to pay all of your medical bills and damages.  If you have a small insurance policy, you leave yourself open to catastrophic medical bills or disability losses if you are injured by an uninsured driver.

Let’s face it – Car insurance is something we hope we never have to use.  But because almost 20,000 car collisions occur every day on our highways, it is prudent to purchase enough insurance to prevent financial devastation when a collision.
